NASA Astronauts Return to Earth, Splashdown on SpaceX Dragon Endeavour

2020-08-02 After 62 days in space, approximately 1,024 orbits around our planet and four spacewalks, our #LaunchAmerica crew members made their way home! On Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley returned to Earth aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Endeavour spacecraft. They splashed down safely in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Pensacola, Florida at 2:48 p.m. EDT.

NASA Astronauts Return Home in SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Spacecraft

2020-08-01 They’re coming home! ? On Aug. 1, NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley will depart from the International Space Station aboard SpaceX’s Dragon “Endeavour” spacecraft after their mission aboard our orbiting laboratory. Starting at 5:15 p.m. EDT, tune in for our live coverage to see the duo undock from the station and make their return back to planet Earth.

NASA Astronauts Arrive at the International Space Station on SpaceX Spacecraft

2020-05-31 After a successful launch into orbit yesterday, SpaceX’s Dragon Endeavour spacecraft is en route to dock with the International Space Station. Watch as astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley join the crew aboard our orbiting laboratory.

We Are Going

2019-05-14 We are going to the Moon, to stay, by 2024. And this is how. Special thanks to William Shatner for lending his voice to this project. About NASA’s Moon to Mars plans: https://www.nasa.gov/specials/moon2mars/ Credit: NASA

After a 19-hour ride aboard the new SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley docked to the International Space Station May 31, inaugurating a new era of human spaceflight aboard a commercial spacecraft. The Crew Dragon automatically linked up to the international docking adapter at the forward end of the station’s Harmony module, setting the stage for a greeting by Expedition 63 Commander Chris Cassidy of NASA and Russian crewmates Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner. The arrival of Hurley and Behnken expanded the Expedition crew on board the orbital outpost. Hurley and Behnken launched on the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, May 30, commencing an historic mission for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program almost nine years after the retirement of the space shuttle.

In this video, NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley take viewers on a tour of the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft that will take them on a 19-hour-journey to their new home in orbit. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and Crew Dragon spacecraft successfully launched from Kennedy Space Center’s historic Launch Pad 39A at 3:22 p.m. EDT on May 30 with the astronauts aboard for a mission to the orbiting laboratory. Crew Dragon will perform a series of phasing maneuvers to gradually approach and autonomously dock with the International Space Station on Sunday, May 31, at approximately 10:29 a.m. EDT. NEWLY ARRIVED NASA ASTRONAUTS ON SPACE STATION GREETED BY VIPS

Within hours after docking to the International Space Station aboard their new SpaceX Crew Dragon craft “Endeavour” May 31, NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken floated aboard the orbital outpost and were greeted by Expedition 63 Commander Chris Cassidy of NASA and Russian crewmates Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner. A short time later, Hurley and Behnken received congratulatory calls from NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Rep. Bruce Babin (R-Texas), Johnson Space Center Director Mark Geyer and JSC Deputy Director Vanessa Wyche, who viewed the docking from Mission Control, Houston. Almost nine years after the retirement of the space shuttle, the launches of American astronauts on American spacecraft from American soil resumed with Hurley and Behnken launching on the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida May 30.

The SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft undocks from the International Space Station on March 8, 2019 after nearly 5 days aboard the orbiting laboratory during the company’s Demo-1 mission for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program and descends to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere. Just over 5 hours later, the uncrewed spacecraft splashes down in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida and is recovered by SpaceX teams.

Crew Demo 2 – NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 – Crew Dragon

On Saturday, May 30th, Falcon 9 successfully launched Crew Dragon’s second demonstration (Demo-2) mission from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This test flight with NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley on board the Dragon spacecraft initiated the return of human spaceflight to the United States.

Demo-2 is the final major test for SpaceX’s human spaceflight system to be certified by NASA for operational crew missions to and from the International Space Station. With this launch, SpaceX helped initiate the return of human spaceflight to the United States with one of the safest, most advanced systems ever built. NASA’s Commercial Crew Program is a turning point for America’s future in space exploration that lays the groundwork for future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

Making History: NASA and SpaceX Launch Astronauts to Space!

Direct from America’s space program to YouTube, watch NASA TV live streaming here to get the latest from our exploration of the universe and learn how we discover our home planet.

NASA TV airs a variety of regularly scheduled, pre-recorded educational and public relations programming 24 hours a day on its various channels. The network also provides an array of live programming, such as coverage of missions, events (spacewalks, media interviews, educational broadcasts), press conferences and rocket launches.

In the United States, NASA Television’s Public and Media channels are MPEG-2 digital C-band signals carried by QPSK/DVB-S modulation on satellite AMC-3, transponder 15C, at 87 degrees west longitude. Downlink frequency is 4000 MHz, horizontal polarization, with a data rate of 38.86 Mhz, symbol rate of 28.1115 Ms/s, and ¾ FEC. A Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) compliant Integrated Receiver Decoder (IRD) is needed for reception.

Watch history unfold on Saturday, May 30, as NASA and SpaceX launch astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley to the International Space Station. This mission marks the first time since the retirement of the space shuttle in 2011 that humans will fly to the space station from U.S. soil. The mission’s first launch attempt on Wednesday, May 27 was scrubbed due to weather conditions.  Tune in starting at 11 a.m. EDT as NASA and SpaceX provide joint, live coverage from launch to arrival at the space station. Teams are targeting 3:22 p.m. EDT for the launch of the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft atop a Falcon 9 rocket from historic Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Crew Dragon is scheduled to dock to the space station on Sunday, May 31. Learn more about the mission:
